A Calm, Practical Guide for Couples in the Isle of Man and across the world.

We don’t get many heatwaves on the Isle of Man. When they do arrive, they tend to sweep in suddenly, bright, bold, and a little bit chaotic.

And if your wedding day happens to fall on one of those rare scorchers, it can feel like a blessing and a curveball all at once.

Golden light? Yes. Warm evenings? Beautiful.

But also… melting makeup, thirsty guests, wilting flowers,

the kind of heat that makes everyone a little slower, softer, and more easily overwhelmed.

This guide is here to help you feel prepared, grounded, and supported, so your day feels like you, even when the temperature climbs.

Heatwaves Change the Pace of a Wedding Day

Heat affects bodies, emotions, and energy levels. Even people who “love the heat” can get caught out when it’s unusually intense.

The biggest things to keep in mind:

  • Heat stress builds quietly — people don’t always realise they’re overheating until they feel faint.

  • Hydration needs double without anyone noticing.

  • Sun exposure can cause headaches, irritability, and fatigue.

  • Timings shift — midday ceremonies become uncomfortable quickly.

Being aware and understanding how heat shapes  your day, you can make choices that keep everyone safe, comfortable, and present.

Ceremony Planning:

Keeping Everyone Cool, Comfortable & Connected

Choose shade like it’s your best friend - Whether it’s under a tree, beside a building, or beneath a sailcloth canopy, shade is the single biggest gift you can give yourselves and your guests. It makes  your day more enjoyable for everyone.

Consider moving the time if possible.  If your ceremony is planned for midday, you might want to move it slightly later or earlier. Golden hour ceremonies are stunning, cooler, and incredibly romantic. Of course, this may be impacted by your venue and other suppliers.

However, when you book me as your Celebrant I am happy to move the time of your ceremony to suit you.

Keep the ceremony shorter In extreme heat, a 15–20-minute ceremony is perfect. It keeps the energy high and the experience meaningful without anyone wilting.

Offer parasols, fans, or both. They look gorgeous in photos and make a huge difference. Parasols and fans are practical, playful, and very Manx‑summer‑meets‑Mediterranean.

Add a hydration ritual A simple moment where you both take a sip of infused water before your vows can be symbolic, grounding, and very needed. Contact me for more ideas.

Flowers hat Can Handle the Heat

Although flowers are not part of my remit as a celebrant, my horticulturalist head comes on here, and I feel it is only natural to suggest some ideas for you.

Heat can be tough on blooms especially the delicate ones we love on the island.

So, if you are planning a wedding in the hotter months, it is worth bearing this in mind. We have some amazing florists who can guide you on your choices.

  • Choose heat‑tolerant flowers. Think orchids, roses, chrysanthemums, succulents.

  • Avoid flowers that wilt quickly. Hydrangeas, peonies, and sweet peas struggle in high heat. Keep bouquets in water until the last moment. Your florist will thank you. Your photos will too.

  •  Shade your installations - Arches, aisles, and table arrangements last longer when they’re not in direct sun.

What to Wear When It’s Hot (Without Compromising Style)

  • Lightweight fabrics are your friend - Linen, chiffon, silk blends breathable, elegant, and comfortable.

  • Footwear matters -Heat + long days = blisters. Choose breathable footwear and break them in early.

  • Makeup needs a little extra support - Setting spray, powder, blotting papers small things that make a big difference.

Guest Wellbeing: Small Touches, Big Impact

  • Hydration stations - Water, iced teas, electrolytes — make it easy for guests to help themselves. Try hydration station ideas.

  • Suncream baskets- SPF 30+ in pump bottles is a thoughtful touch.

  • Cooling zones - Shaded seating, fans, cold towels — especially helpful for older guests and children.

  • Encourage breaks - People sometimes feel guilty stepping away.Remind them they’re allowed to rest.

Emotional & Energetic Care

Heat makes everything feel a little more intense. People tire faster. Emotions rise quicker. You might feel more tender, more vulnerable, more easily overwhelmed.

This is normal.

  • Slow the pace

  • Build in breathing space

  • Add grounding rituals

  • Check in with each other throughout the day

Final Thoughts

A heatwave doesn’t have to derail your wedding day.

With a little awareness and a few thoughtful adjustments, it can create the most beautiful atmosphere, warm, golden, slow, and full of presence.

And remember you don’t have to navigate any of this alone.

Your celebrant, your suppliers, your venue we’re all here to help you feel safe, supported, and able to enjoy every moment.

And most importantly my lovelies, enjoy your day and
